A glorious evening of spring sunshine and warmth to kick off Cadnam’s season in the splendid setting of the Linden Oval. There was a super electronic scoreboard to play with and some sparkling cricket as well – who could want for more?
Our hosts, Totton & Eling, batted first and made a reasonable start, aided by a generous supply of “wides” and “no balls”. Matt Hardy then dismissed both openers in his first over and followed up with two more wickets to take 4-20 off his 4 overs – three being bowled and one caught by Aiden Taylor. Skipper Jacob Sheath rang the changes on the bowlers, putting on no less than seven, of whom James Walter and Ron Biddlecombe took 2 wickets each and Aiden Taylor finished off proceedings with the last one (Totton & Eling only had 10 players). Jacob also shone behind the stumps, taking two stumpings and a catch whilst Peter Biddlecombe also took a catch. D Rides top scored for T&E, making 17 which was still short of the “Extras” (19). Next best was Steed with 12. Totton & Eling finished on 92 off 16.3 of the agreed 18 overs.
Rides also took a wicket in the first over of the Cadnam reply, which set the stage for Matt Hardy and Luke Evans to really entertain the crowd. They took a few overs to play themselves in, then they decided it was time for attack. Matt did not do too bad but Luke produced an impressive performance, racing to his 50 off just 31 balls. Another “6” took him to 59 as well as levelling the scores, but a misunderstanding left Luke run out by Steed’s throw in, so being deprived of what would have been a well deserved “not out”. As it was, Luke’s final crescendo took him to 4 “4”s and 5 “6”s, two of them being truly massive blows, one of which was hit clean out of the ground. Matt Hardy finished the proceeedings with his second 6, going with two “4”s to leave him on 36 not out. Aiden Taylor was in at the end of this innings as well, watching from the bowler’s end as Matt hit the winning 6 to give Cadnam an 8 wicket win in only 11.2 overs.
A very nice start to the season and if Luke and Matt can carry on the best of their batting into Saturday afternoons they should score good runs and hopefully help Cadnam’s 1st XI to a few wins in what is likely to be a challenging season.

The selection committee will meet on the 25th to pick the teams for next weekend, please let your Captains know your availability for these games
Holt and Haskell are now ready to start taking orders for club kit. You can either go to the H&H website and click on the Team Wear section to order or go into the store and tell them you want Cadnam kit. There are no minimum orders so you can order as little or as much as you like!
In spite of the snow, it is only 3 months to the first game of the season and hopefully only about 11 weeks to the first outdoor practice session!
It is time to think about renewing your membership for 2013. The AGM resolved to maintain the membership and match fees at last year’s levels to account for the poor season last year and the tough economic times. So there is 0% inflation to play for Cadnam again this coming season.
Please download the attached file for: 1) Details of what you get for your membership and the cost; 2) Answers to some questions you may have about how the various schemes work; 3) A renewal form; 4) A copy of the Club’s Code of Conduct which you sign up to as a member.
Please complete all the details on the form and send to Steve Judd. If the Club does not have your details we cannot contact you for selection or to tell you if a game you were due to play in has been rearranged or cancelled. We need your details so they can be passed to whoever may be captaining your match on the day, remember the regular Captain may not always be there.
Please take the trouble to fill in the form completely, even if you think we should have your details from last year. Your details will only be used for the internal admin of the club – they will not be passed to any outside party without your consent.
To save the club money on postage, forms will be acknowledged via e-mail or by text to the mobile number you supply. Membership cards will be handed out at the first reasonable opportunity – hopefully rather earlier than last year!
Many thanks for your renewal and here’s to a great summer of cricket in 2013!
